Distance-Educator.com
I have a very strong dislike for the Distance-Educator.com site. I can smell "vouchers" and William Bennett throughout the site. I know better than to pass judgement so quickly, but when I see "yippy skippy" the virtual academy children (Ask how much old Bill makes off of those little businesses) are getting together to socialize, it is very hard to swallow.

:) I'm a public educator and former NEA member.
I like to take the gold nuggets and leave the scruff. Distance-educator.com does a great service...instant edtech news delivered straight to my mailbox. Other than that, I have no comment. Also, try the Pew Internet Reports at http://www.pewinternet.org/
The trends they report are fascinting and informative to all ed tech folks!

Yeah, NEA. Although, I have been "ticked" at "us" too. One should always question, get involved and change things that we do not like.
I will admit, that the direct e-mail service is nice. However, I do agree, one needs to "pan for the gold".
I checked out the Pew Internet site. This looks like a great resource for studies. I couldn't find any information on virtual schools for k-12 students. I would like to see studies that compare traditional settings with the virtual schools with younger students. Is the data the same as for older learners? If you know if any, send it my way, please. I have, STRONG :-) , opinions as you may have guessed :-), but I believe that it must be a good environment for some students. As I age, I try to "seek first to understand". Thanks for all of your comments!
